China Develops its own “Secure” OS

The Chinese government has reportedly developed a “secure” OS and hardened CPU for military servers and critical infrastructure. This OS was developed by the Chinese “University of Science and Technology for National Defense” in order to diminish the effect of potential foreign cyber attacks on critical systems, attacks traditionally targeted at Windows, Linux and Unix systems. The OS is named Kylin and sources report that the Chinese government began transitioning the OS onto critical (military) systems as early as 2007.

What is the potential impact on control systems? Well, unless Kylin specific control systems have been developed, not much.
