Patrick Coyle of the Chemical Facility Security News Blog and occasional contributor to this site notes that HR 1136 was de facto defeated in a vote this week. It was offered as an amendment to the 2012 Defense Bill by Rep. Langevin and was defeated 172 to 246. Is this a sign that people are lining up behind the new Obama proposal or does this bode ill for any cybersecurity bill this year?
Add Siemens’ SIMATIC WinCC to the list of products that support a VM install. The company announcement this week has a good level of detail on what is supported and the benefits of virtualization for the product. (HT: Stephan Beirer of GAI-Netconsult)
SMi’s Smart Grid Security Asia, scheduled for July in Singapore, was cancelled due to poor attendee registration numbers. The European version of this event was quite well attended, so evidently the interest level in smart grid security in AsiaPac is lagging Europe and North America. Perhaps the Toshiba purchase of Landis+Gyr will liven things up. There are a number of interesting smart grid projects in Asia, and they tend to be less AMI centric than the US.
The first episode of CNBC’s Code Wars aired on Thursday night. I’m outside the US so I missed a chance to see the full episode, but I watched the clips on the site. As expected there is not much new info for the SCADA Security community. It may be a good way to educate friends and family though.
No ICS-CERT publicly disclosed vulnerabilities for two weeks now, after the flurry the past two months. Beresford’s are lurking though.
