Q1 Research Plan

We have a number of interesting results for the Intrusion Detection and Security Monitoring of SCADA Networks Research Project (formerly known as the DHS Project in this blog) that will roll out in the 1st quarter of 2005.

  1. The first change you will see is the research results will be available online to anyone with a registered login. The list of users is getting quite large and e-mail is limiting distribution. The login requirement is to limit to some degree hackers and other attackers from getting the results. Any SCADA user, vendor or other person with a reasonable use for the research will get a login. Not only will this allow you to get the updates when you want them, it will also be a portal to contributing to the project.
  2. We have two additions to the data dictionary planned in Q1 - Honeywell’s Plantscape SCADA System and Telvent’s Vector SCADA System,
  3. The Snort rules for OPC will be released in Q1.
  4. More press releases from MSSP, IDS, and SEM vendors announcing their support for the SCADA Snort rules and SCADA data dictionary. Most of the larger players are already testing or using the research results today.

We need to come up with a new name or acronym for the project - ideas are welcome.
