US-CERT Discloses Iconics Vulnerability / Patch
US-CERT published a Vulnerability Note on an Active X related vulnerability in the Iconics OPC-enabled Visualization Tool.
By convincing a user to view a specially crafted HTML document (e.g., a web page or an HTML email message or attachment), an attacker may be able to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user. The attacker could also cause Internet Explorer (or the program using the WebBrowser control) to crash.
The good news is Iconics was responsive to the responsibly disclosed vulnerability discovered by Will Dormann and issued a patch. Asset owners need to subscribe to their vendors security bulletins and US-CERT’s bulletins because the need to patch is greater than Microsoft.
