SCADApedia
As we near our 500 blog post (this is #497), it is finally time to address a problem that has bothered us for a while. Factual information in our blog entries tended to get buried over time. The search engine and categories helped, but a lot of the value of the content was lost.
Our solution is not novel, but I think it will be very effective: the SCADApedia. This is a wiki powered by the MediaWiki engine that is used in the wikipedia. The rules are simple:
- Facts will go in the SCADApedia
- Comments and opinions will remain in the blog
- Any Digital Bond site subscriber will be able to create and edit SCADApedia entries. We will ride herd to insure opinion does not leak into article pages (it is allowed in the discussion pages). My expectation is we will do most of the writing, but I would be happy to be proven wrong on this. I have lined up a few writers with specialized knowledge to keep the SCADApedia up to date on a committee or standard.
- We will publish a blog entry once a month with links to all the new and modified SCADApedia entries until this becomes unwieldy.
It will take a while to build up this content, so searching SCADApedia will probably be of limited value until the fall. Initially you will probably be better served by following SCADApedia links from blog entries.
