Walking the ISA Expo Floor - Part 2

There is not a lot of cyber security at ISA Expo, certainly not more than last year and perhaps less.

  • Industrial Defender is here with their security product and service suite. No new announcements for the show.
  • Wurldtech is here and announced their new Satellite model of Achilles. More on this tomorrow after a session.
  • Innominate and Byres Security/MTL are here with their new models of field security devices. I recorded interviews with both of them that I will post tomorrow.
  • Mu Security is here and announced that both the ABB AC 800M and the Tofino field security device from Byres Security are MUSIC certified.
  • Hirschmann is here with their field firewall, which is OEMed from Innominate.
  • The industrial router and switch market seems to be heating up. Besides the small switch from SEL I mentioned in Part 1, Enterasys introduced their SecureSwitch I-series which is build to meet the industrial environmental standards. ACL’s and QoS can be applied per port. GarrettCom is here with their recently introduced industrial router, the DX900. This product has most of the security features found in a full featured IT router such as firewall, VPN, 802.1x, port security, …

The SP100 group has been working hard to make progress on the wireless standard, but it seems that a lot of people leave the room grumbling and frustrating. Walt Boyes is in the room and is covering this in his blog in more detail.

I attended most of the Microsoft Manufacturers User Group (MSMUG) meeting. This seems to be a group in search of a mission. MSPatch is working with ISA SP99 WG6; MSSecure is inactive; and MSOPC is really unnecessary given the work the OPC Foundation does. MSMUG is, in my opinion, only useful for the annual or bi-annual forum in Redmond where the manufacturing community has time to speak to and hear from directly from senior Microsoft management.
