Another hacker conference SCADA presentation

Raoul Chiesa, founder of the Italian security consulting firm mediaservice.net and the hacker site blackhats.it, will present on SCADA security next month at HITBSecConf Dubai. His presentation is titled “Penetration Testing SCADA and National Critical Infrastructure: Real-Life Experiences and Case Studies“. This is a continuation of a trend that Dale pointed out last year in the Top Ten SCADA Security Stories of 2007 (see number 3).

Here is a news story that talks about the presentation in the context of security risks associated with Middle East oil and gas networks: Arab countries at threat from potential disruption to their logistics, utility and oil and gas networks

I won’t be at the conference but will do my best to get some feedback from the event. We’ve seen a lot of the same scenarios re-hashed in recent years so hopefully Raoul has something new and useful to present.

Well, I think at least we can take for granted that he won’t consume and offer grappa during the presentation.

Abstract makes me think it’s a SCADA 101, plus a nice video of either:
1. Aurora
2. Robotic Arm Going Haywire from Ping Sweep
3. Wind Turbine Freewheeling after Load Disconnection

Not worth the price of a ticket, I’ll wait till it comes out on video.

P.S. On a personal note, Ralph, you owe me a new monitor, this one is now covered with coffee.
