Friday News and Notes
- NERC had a two day workshop on High Impact, Low Frequency events. These are events that are rarely seen but would have a big impact if they occurred and included cyber attacks on control systems. With all the talk about risk, it is this high / low dichotomy of two elements in the risk equation that are causing so much difficulty in risk management. [hat tip: CIPUG]
- Jim Pinto has an interesting column, Whither ISA?, over at AutomationWorld. As we noted earlier, this is the last year for their big ISA Expo show. Jim points out other dire signs. The impact to the control system security world? ISA 99 is a very active standards body and the ISCI, owned by ISA, is trying to create security certifications for control system products and systems. If ISA withers or dies completely those efforts will be displaced and perhaps for naught.
- The 128-page DHS Strategy for Securing Control Systems is up on the US-CERT site. It deals with coordinating government efforts, at all levels, and the private sector. Must admit I’m only on page 3.
