Great Content on Sponsor Stage at S4x17

We had a number of sponsors at S4x16 complain that few of the 300 attendees came to their talk, although a few were standing room only. So this year we were blunt, your sponsor session is competing against quality content on the Main Stage and Stage 2: Technical Deep Dives. Your sponsor session needs to be interesting and fresh content, or have a big name speaker, to draw a crowd in this advanced ICSsec audience.

The Sponsor Sessions are coming in and the first three definitely stepped up:

  • OSIsoft will talk about their Killer Robots, Inc. contribution to the Capture The Flag (CTF). These are flags related to hacking and securing a PI System. It’s probably a must see for anyone wanting to win the CTF and worthwhile for anyone involved in securing or pen testing PI. OSIsoft’s main goal in sponsoring the CTF is to build and grow relationships with the ICS security community, continuing their tradition of leadership in the ICSsec space.
  • Belden’s session is Critical Infrastructure vs. Botnet Attacks – Winner Take All. It will look at the Mirai variant that used cameras for a DDOS attack and what we can expect on similar IIoT attacks on critical infrastructure. Of course, there will be some ideas around Tofino on how to prevent these attacks as well. What is notable here is that Belden is sending Erik Schweigert, their Engineering Team Lead to present the session. This will be a technical talk and Erik will be able to answer serious questions.
  • TUV Rheinland Opensky session is IoT and ICS – Functional Safety Meets Cybersecurity. It’s hard to imagine any organization better qualified to talk about Functional Safety that TUV. And they are sending two people to give this presentation, one from the safety area and the other from the cybersecurity area. So you will learn how they are combining safety and security in their practices and for their customers.

The 17 session agenda for the Sponsor Stage alone will rival other ICSsec events, particularly for people that know the basics of ICS security and OT. Of course on top of that you have a similar number of sessions on the Main Stage and Stage 2 as well as the CTF and HallwayCon.
